Fredo Bang Says Boosie Badazz Is His Cousin – But Never Picks Up The Phone To Do Music
Hip Hop has its fair share of relatives in the industry. The latest familial connection to be made comes out of Baton Rouge’s music scene, and it’s one that both sides speak very little of.
On Monday (March 1), Fredo Bang stopped by The Breakfast Club to discuss several topics, including growing in Baton Rouge, his music, and more. One of the interesting points discussed during the interview was the ongoing rumors of Fredo and Boosie Badazz being cousins.
Angela Yee asked Fredo if he actually was cousins with Boosie, and the 24-year-old answered with a deadpan response.
“Yea we’re real cousins,” Fredo told the morning show at the 1:43 mark. “We had one [conversation] after everyone found out we were cousins. I seen him in Atlanta at the airport.”
DJ Envy asked what that conversation was like, and Fredo gave another awkward response.
“Nothing,” Fredo said with a smirk across his face. “I mean, he said he had somethings to tell me that I didn’t know, and we talked. I got his number, and he said we were going to do some music, but he never picked the phone up.”
Fredo then proceeded to shine some light on the awkward familial connection. The Def Jam rapper joined a crew in 2014 called TBG (Top Boy Gorilla), which has been around Baton Rouge since the ’90s. Boosie’s Bad Azz Entertainment was coming up around the same time, and the two groups worked closely together until some issues sprung up and now they seemingly don’t see eye-to-eye.
In December, Boosie barely spoke about his relationship with Fredo and TBG during an interview with VladTV.
“I don’t really want to talk about that,” Boosie told Vlad with a smirk that rivaled Fredo’s. “It ain’t nothing serious. I just don’t talk about Baton Rouge shit like that. It ain’t no big deal, but I don’t disclose no Baton Rouge shit.”
One artist that Boosie did take under his wing just thanked him in a significant way recently. In February, Alabama’s own Yung Bleu gifted his mentor Boosie a hefty $100,000 in pure cash. In a video posted on Instagram, Boosie smiles and pulls stacks of money out of a Ziploc bag with Bleu off-camera capturing the footage.
“A n-gga never gave me over $1,000!” Boosie exclaimed repeatedly.
