The Atlanta native is the latest to adopt the Brooklyn drill sound alongside Fivio, who’s hailed as one of the genre’s pioneers. DreamDoll worked with the “Big Drip” creator on her single and video for “Ah Ah Ah” over the summer, HipHopDX’s 2020 Producer Of The Year Hit-Boy recently tapped him for “Salute” alongside Big Sean and even the legendary Nas recruited him for the A$AP Ferg-assisted “Spicy” in the fall. And perhaps most notably, Drake tapped into the sound earlier in 2020 for Dark Lane Demo Tapes.

Yachty has been hard at work throughout the pandemic, releasing his fourth studio album Lil Boat 3 in May and following it up with a deluxe version on Thanksgiving. With a total of 27 tracks between the two efforts, features included Future, Playboi Carti, Lil Baby, Vince Staples, A$AP Rocky, Tyler The Creator, DaBaby, Drake, Lil Durk, Young Thug and more.

Lil Boat 3 served as the final installment in Yachty’s popular Lil Boat series, though it didn’t fare as well as its predecessors. The album arrived at No. 14 on the Billboard 200 with 30,000 album-equivalent units, while In comparison, March 2018’s Lil Boat 2 debuted at No. 2 on the chart with 64,000 album-equivalent units.

Yachty’s laughing all the way to the bank either way, though, as he recently revealed his check for writing the City Girls smash “Act Up” was a cool seven figures.
