The Weeknd’s ‘Blinding Lights’ Makes Case For G.O.A.T. Song With Billboard Hot 100 Milestone

The Weeknd continues to make history. After dominating the charts with his After Hours album, the XO singer collected a rare Billboard Hot 100 milestone on Monday (March 8) when “Blinding Lights” stayed in the chart’s Top 10 for a 52nd consecutive week.

No other artist has logged a song for a full calendar year inside Billboard‘s premium chart. At the end of 2020, The Weeknd passed “Post Malone” who had the record with 39 Top 10 weeks for “Circles.”

With “Blinding Lights” surging back to No. 3, it earned a 27th week in the top 3, which ties him the all-time record alongside The Chainsmokers’ “Closer” and Mark Ronson’s “Uptown Funk!” The smash hit also earned a 43rd week in the Top 5, which is 16 more than anyone else.

The Weeknd was one of the musical winners of the coronavirus pandemic. He parlayed his After Hours success into headlining the Super Bowl’s halftime performance in February. Unfortunately, the crooner’s latest body of work will not be represented at the 2021 Grammy Awards, where he was snubbed with zero nominations across the board.

“Blinding Lights” isn’t the only track The Weeknd has calling the Top 10 home. “Save Your Tears” holds steady at No. 6 this week on the Hot 100 after peaking at No. 4 in February.
