Maxo Kream’s Favorite Cut From New Album Isn't The Tyler, The Creator-Assisted Single

HipHopDX – Despite the popularity of Maxo Kream and Tyler, The Creator’s electric “Big Persona” collaboration, the Houston-bred lyricist feels like his Weight Of The World album has multiple other highlights.

During his recent “Connected DXTS” interview with HipHopDX, Maxo Kream revealed his favorite tracks from the album while discussing the meaning of his Nipsey Hussle-inspired lyric on the intro “Cripstian.”

“I’d say, ‘Don’t Play With Shawty Ass’, ‘Mama’s Purse,’ all them hoes got they all got their own bounce to em,” Maxo Kream said.

Maxo’s Weight Of The World track “Mama’s Purse” captures his earnest respect and concerns for his mother, who he says he tends to shower with retail therapy even though it doesn’t help her with the trauma of losing Maxo’s younger brother Money Du.

“Ever since I made some figures, I’ve been splurgin’ on my momma/And that’s the muthafuckin’ problem, it don’t help her with her trauma,” Maxo raps on the song.

On the other hand, “Don’t Play With Shawty Ass” indulges the “Roaches” rapper’s gun-toting vernacular via production featuring an infectiously pulsating piano roll, crafted by Chicago producer Monte Booker — who has placements with artists such as Smino and Mick Jenkins.

“I like how it came about,” he said. “The beat fire than a mothafucka, you know what I’m saying? Monte Booker, shout out, my boy. He went and cooked that shit up. But like, how the beat is, how unorthodox the hook is. You feel me? Just everything about it, for real.”

In a previous interview, Maxo Kream also spoke about his “Streets Alone” collaboration with A$AP Rocky, revealing Rocky was the one who initially reached out for the record.

“Man, Rocky just sent me that bitch,” he said. “He sent me a bunch of songs to choose from, and I chose that one. I don’t even know who produced that bitch. I ain’t going to lie to you. That’s crazy as a muthafucker. Right? Yeah. Honestly. I ain’t going to play. I don’t know. Rocky sent it to me. Ask Rocky. That’s the one that had the vibe. That was the best one, out of the ones he sent me, so I fucked with it. ‘Streets Alone’-type shit.”

He continued, maintaining the A$AP Mob boss also has more heat in the vault that could soon become a part of Rocky’s highly anticipated All Smiles album. “I sent him something,” he said. “I don’t want to speak on it too much, until it’s all the way cleared up. But yeah, I sent him some shit for his album.”
