Young Thug & Gunna Compare ‘Slime Language 2’ Sessions To Coachella Performances
Boasting new features such as Drake, Future, Travis Scott, Coi Leray, Big Sean as well as the entire Young Stoner Lifer artist roster, Young Thug’s new music baby in Slime Language 2 is an event by every definition of the word.
According to Thugga himself, the recording sessions of the 23-track album played out like one all the same.
“It seemed like a show,” Young Thug told Zane Lowe for Apple Music’s New Music Daily. “It seemed like a Lollapalooza, Coachella. It just seemed like a show. Every moment was performing. Those was more a performance. You got to show up. You know what I’m saying?
“Everybody’s watching there. Everybody here. Everybody in your shit. Everybody in your face, you got to show up. It just felt like that. Every moment.”
The gold-selling Gunna was also on hand for the interview and he expressed just how much Young Thug’s tutelage has impacted his career for the better. The superstar rappers are known to trade lavish gifts come birthdays but the relationship has a more solid foundation than materialism.
“Ain’t nobody gave me more loyalty than just him from day one,” Gunna revealed. “He showed them more loyalty than I knew. To I learned from. You see what I’m saying? It was taught to me like okay, this is right. Cause I know it right in the feel right. To where it’s like, man, there done been people who I know he knew before me.
“And I don’t get into it with him when and his Cancer form. For me like, Hey bro, no it’s alive. And when you get somebody to do that, you done that. You got to give it back. If you like me, you’re going to give it back. He the same way. He a Leo. They big on loyalty. You know what I’m saying? They want you to scratch their back.”
Directed by New York visual artist Omar Jones, YSL’s “Ski” video captures Young Thug and Gunna in their party element but also hosts a load of cameos ranging from Swae Lee, NAV, social media influencers Dorien B. Scott, Fur-Quan Powell, Camyra Franklin, Mya Nicole Johnson, Christopher Zion Cotter and Seattle Seahawks‘ star DK Metcalf.
Boasting production from 2019 HipHopDX Producer Of The Year Wheezy, Southside, Turbo, OZ, Dot Da Genius and many more, Slime Language 2 goes the distance in attempting to provide music for stadium-sized moments once the COVID-19 pandemic is tapered.
Such a compilation requires a lot of sacrifices and Young Thug being the biggest star on the label (“It’s not about me anymore” he openly admits) as he hopes to propel the careers of Lil Keed, Dolly White, HiDoraah, Yak Gotti and Lil Duke into platinum-selling territory.
“We like this organization, you know what I’m saying … It’s founded,” Young Thug emphasized. “Gotta focus on a lot of people, but it’s easy. You know what I’m saying? To do this with a breeze, that’s easy at this point. I’ve been doing it my whole life. So it’s not work for me. It’s another day at the gym, basically. You’re going to get a lot from me to though. Every year I’m trying to go at least top 10, 20 times a year. At least 20 times a year. I’m trying to do this for the rest of my life 20 times a year.”
Thugga concluded, “I’m trying to make sure Gunna and my whole organization do the same thing every year. I’m trying to make them. I’m trying to make sure everybody my dudes do the same thing every year. You know what I’m saying? So it was like my brain, no stop, bro. It really never stopped.”
