A$AP Ferg‘s status as a member of A$AP Mob has been up in the air since August after members of the collective reportedly booted him out. As far as Ferg is concerned, he’s still a member and always will be because of their history, and he made it clear during an interview with Genius.
“I don’t think there’s no breaking up of the Mob,” he said. “It’s like, once you’re in the Mob, you can’t get out. This is blood in, blood out… because it’s not a contractual thing that makes me Mob. We was Mob before music.”
The Harlem rapper compared their relationship to a mafia, explaining how it’s normal for people to have disagreements due to people growing at different stages.
“The different families, they war with each other and shit, because one mob member leave and then they build they own shit and then it becomes a thing,” he said. “But you can never get out of the mob. So that’s not even a thing.
“When you get older, people grow in different directions as well. What was once cool is not even cool anymore. And some people can handle your evolution. Some people didn’t evolve yet. Some people don’t understand your evolution or whatever the case may be, but that’s okay. And then you have discrepancies and people, they just go against what your whole thing is. And everybody has a different agenda, so that’s okay. That’s life.”
Ferg thinks of himself as one of the leaders of the Mob due to the amount of money he’s brought in, but admitted A$AP Rocky paved the way for all of them.
“I’m definitely one of the leaders,” he proclaimed. “That could go without being said. You can’t kick me out of something I helped build. I brought millions and millions of dollars and fed families through my voice and my ideas… I bring equity into the brand. I mean, that’s like the carpenter. You can’t kick the carpenter out and expect for the house to have a roof.”
He added, “It’s a few different leaders of A$AP. Everybody that wear different hats. I think that Rocky is definitely a leader. Kicking down a door and everything like that. But when you got A$AP Ferg making noise and breaking the mold and being number two and taking it where I took it, I’m also a leader as well.”
Ferg briefly addressed the situation on his song “Big A$AP” with lines like, “Some of my n-ggas got jealous,” but it wasn’t quite the revelation fans were expecting.
A$AP Illz was the first person to claim Ferg was kicked out of the group, which was also backed up by A$AP Bari.
“Y’all rather have a n-gga who’s not even half way on my level around just cause he a Yes man and do Whatever you want at the snap of your fingers sit goofy,” Illz said. “Ferg aint ASAP NO MORE. sorry guys. that n-gga burnt out, songs dumb trash. mr anthem can’t get right.”
On the other hand, A$AP Nast came to Ferg’s defense and denied their comments altogether.
“THE TRAP LORD WAS NOT AND WILL NOT BE KICKED OUT OF A$AP FALSE NEWS EVERYBODY GO HOME NOW #ASAPFOREVER,” he said. “DISPUTES HAPPEN IN FAMILYS ALL OVER THE WORLD EVERYDAY B! ITS EXTREMELY EMBARRASSING AND UNNECESSARY FOR IT TO HAPPEN THE WAY IT DID BUT IT DID AND THIS WILL BE TAKEN CARE OF THE RIGHT WAY GOODNIGHT YALL.”
