André 3000 Locks Down Next Acting Role In A24 Film

André 3000 has confirmed his next acting role after being added to the cast of upcoming A24 film Showing Up, according to Deadline.

The Outkast legend is set to star opposite four-time Oscar nominee Michelle Williams in a movie described as “a vibrant and sharply funny portrait of an artist on the verge of a career-changing exhibition.” The description continues, “As she navigates family, friends, and colleagues in the lead up to her show, the chaos of life becomes the inspiration for great art.”

The film is being directed by Kelly Reichardt, who last released First Cow in 2019 and has collaborated with Williams on three other occasions. Showing Up co-stars include Hong Chau, Judd Hirsch, Maryann Plunkett, John Magaro, Heather Lawless, Amanda Plummer, Larry Fessenden and James Le Gros.

André 3000 most recently starred in AMC series Dispatches from Elsewhere alongside Jason Segel. His last movie role was in 2018’s High Life with Robert Pattinson as the lead, and previously starred as Jimi Hendrix in the 2013 biopic Jimi: All Is by My Side.

In September 2020, André 3000 detailed a near-death childhood incident for journalist Mike Ayers’ book titled One Last Song: Conversations on Life, Death, and Music.

“When I was younger, me and my friend were in a car accident,” he explained. “We were riding with my friend’s mom, but we were so young, we didn’t know what happened until we woke up in the hospital. I didn’t know. I was a kid.”

He continued, “Fortunately, we were on this street in Atlanta and it was a non-busy street. And fortunately this guy who had money passed by — and he had one of the first working cell phones. It was like a suitcase. And he was able to call an ambulance. If we didn’t have that cell phone, we would have been out there for a minute — and might have died. Who knows. I don’t know if that’s a near-death experience. But I was definitely lucky.”
