California Rapper Young Slo-Be Shot & Killed At 29
Young Slo-Be, the Stockton, California rapper behind the hits “Smurkish Mode” and “I Love You,” has been shot and killed at the age of 29.
The news was confirmed by Thizzler On The Roof, the Oakland-based media company which worked with Slo-Be. The rapper (real name Disean Jaquae Victor) died on Friday morning (August 5).
“We’re devastated to announce that rising star Young Slo-Be was shot & killed this morning,” Thizzler On The Roof tweeted. “It was an honor to work with Slo-Be the last couple of years and we’re heartbroken to say goodbye.
The company added: “Our condolences go out to his family & loved ones.”

According to CBS News, the shooting took place in Manteca, California. Police responded to reports of a shooting a little after 8 a.m. When officers arrived on the scene they found a male shooting victim who had suffered fatal injuries.
No motive for the shooting has yet been revealed, but police said it doesn’t appear to have been a random act. No suspect information has been released at this point.
“Our whole team mourns him and are shaken to think of the loss of his massive potential to this senseless act of violence,” Slo-Be’s project manager at Thizzler On The Roof said in a statement to Pitchfork.
Young Slo-Be was a well known figure in the Stockton Hip Hop scene, with tracks such as “Smurkish Mode” and “Unforgivable” featuring Drakeo The Ruler among some of his popular.
His biggest record, “I Love You,” which samples Mariah Carey’s “Circles,” came in 2021. Arriving on the rapper’s Slo-Be Bryant 3 album, it blew up on TikTok, and has been featured in more than 19,000 videos on the platform to-date.
Fans of Young Slo-Be have taken to social media to pay tribute to the late rapper.
“RIP Young Slo-Be. Really was on the come up, been one of my favorite artists for a minute,” one fan wrote on Twitter. “Very sad [heart emoji] Was thinking about “Don’t Kome 2 My Funeral” when the news broke.”
Another tweeted: “Young Slo-Be was on his way to be sumn big out of NorCal and was one of my favorite artists. Sadly he passed away today so here’s a thread of some of my favorite songs he’s released. RIP Slo-Be.”
A third simply wrote: “Long Live Young Slo-be.”
