Coi Leray Has Grammy Award Aspirations Following 'Blick Blick' Success
Coi Leray has verbally beaten back numerous critics over the past two years, whether on TikTok or the music industry. After the release of her “Blick Blick” single with Nicki Minaj, the 2022 HipHopDX Rising Star is setting her highest career aspiration ahead of her debut album.
During a series of since-deleted tweets, Leray listed off her hit singles before making a bold statement for her future.
“No More Parties, Big prrd, Twinnem, Anxiety and now Blick Blick,” she began. “I want best new artist at the Grammys. Even a nomination . I’ll take it.” In a follow-up tweet, she laughed, “Oh yeah … and thanks to everyone who laughed at my XXL freestlye.”

Dreaming of Grammy fame isn’t anything new for a young rap artist, but Leray aims toward history. In total, five rap acts have been named Best New Artist in the 62-year history of the award and of those acts, two were women — Lauryn Hill in 1999 and Megan Thee Stallion in 2021. In total, six women in rap history have been nominated for Best New Artist, with Saweetie earning a nom for the 2022 ceremony.
Coi Leray has shown plenty of appreciation for getting Nicki to join her on “Blick Blick,” going to interesting lengths such as getting a tattoo in honor of the moment to going all out to make sure the music video for the song matched her vision.
Leray revealed she was performing the video’s choreography with a major knee injury during a behind-the-scenes exclusive with her fanbase.
“I did all that Dancing on a fracture knee,” Leray wrote in part on Friday (March 18). “I gotta get a minor surgery on it but I do physical therapy to maintain it for now. I wanted to go 10x harder with the choreo but it looks so good for a fractured patella.”
