DMX's Family To Hold Prayer Vigil Outside White Plains Hospital As Fight For Life Continues

White Plains, NY – DMX reportedly suffered a drug overdose and subsequent heart attack on Friday (April 2), causing the Hip Hop community to erupt with well wishes for the legendary rapper.

Although DMX (real name Earl Simmons) remains on life support in critical condition at White Plains Hospital in White Plains, New York, his family isn’t ready to give up hope.

According to TMZ, the Simmons family is holding a prayer vigil outside of the hospital at 5 p.m. EST on Monday (April 5), less than 24 hours after the hospital staff held one of their own.

DMX’S fiancée and mother have been allowed inside the ICU room where he’s currently fighting for his life while several of his children are reportedly flying in to be by his side as well.

News of DMX’s condition broke on Saturday morning (April 3). At the time, it was reported he was in a “vegetative” state with very little brain activity. As his name trended on Twitter, several of his peers flooded the timeline with tributes to the Ruff Ryders luminary, including Ice Cube, Ice-T, Missy Elliott, Ja Rule and LL COOL J.

X’s longtime attorney Murray Richman initially told reporters he’d been taken off life support and was breathing on his own, but that turned out not to be the case. Richman admitted he was a “worried” man but remained hopeful the 50-year-old artist would bounce back.

The Simmons family issued an official statement on Easter Sunday (April 4) but didn’t reveal any new information.

“On Friday night, April 2nd, 2021, our brother, son, father, and colleague DMX, birth name of Earl Simmons, was admitted to White Plains (NY) Hospital, facing serious health issues,” the statement read. “We ask that you please keep Earl/DMX and us in your thoughts, wishes, and prayers as well as respect our privacy as we face these challenges. Thank you.”

HipHopDX continues sending our support to DMX and his family during this time.
