Drake's ‘Certified Lover Boy’ Races To Platinum Status With 3rd Week Atop Billboard 200
Drake has set another milestone for himself with Certified Lover Boy.
On Sunday (September 26), the OVO Sound boss extended his reign atop the Billboard 200 chart for a third consecutive week with an estimated 171,000 total album-equivalent units earned. According to Billboard, it’s now the quickest album to be eligible for a platinum plaque in 2021.
Certified Lover Boy is the first rap album since Lil Baby’s My Turn to spend three weeks or more at No. 1. The Quality Control rapper spent five non-consecutive weeks at No. 1 in 2020, buoyed by singles such as “Woah” and “Emotionally Scarred.”
The biggest challenger to CLB’s chart supremacy came in the form of Lil Nas X’s debut album Montero.
The pop superstar had one of the more talked about rollouts in recent memory. Despite features from the likes of Megan Thee Stallion, Doja Cat, Jack Harlow, Elton John and more, the album debuted at No. 2 on the chart with an estimated 126,000 total album-equivalent units earned.
The news regarding Lil Nas X not hitting No. 1 barely seemed to affect the “MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name)” artist.
On Saturday (September 25), he shared a message of thanks for fans and those who took the time to listen to the album he considered “therapy.”
“just wanna say thank u again to every single person who gave my album a listen,” he wrote. “so many people said i wouldn’t have a career after 2019 and now i have one of the biggest albums of the year. i love u guys and i do not take u for granted.”
