Gunna Crowns Himself 'King Of Drip' & Explains How He Coined The Term

Gunna believes he’s the best-dressed rapper in the game, despite his choice of outfits often facing mockery on social media.

During a recent conversation with GQ, the DS4Ever rap star staked his claim on the fashion throne by crowning himself the “King of Drip.” According to the Atlanta native, he’s also responsible for the word drip becoming so popular.

“Drip came from me trying to use another word instead of swag,” he said. “‘Cause we used to be swagged and you used to have flave, too. You used to even say swayver, like swag and flavor. You had to know. If you know, you know.”

He continued, “You had to be from Atlanta to know swayver and futuristic, like Black boy, white boy swag. And then we started to just drip. Now, we dripping, we spilling. It was just another era instead of swag.”

21 Savage might object to Gunna’s “King of Drip” claim, though. In January, the Savage Mode rapper argued Pharrell is the rightful owner of the crown while marvelling at his consistency when it comes to putting outfits together.

“Pharrell is the king of drip!!” 21 tweeted. “How the hell he do that shit for so long?” Pharrell retweeted 21 Savage’s post and humbly gave credit to his hometown saying, “From Virginia… it’s Something in the Water.”
