Here's Why It Took Gunna 2 Days To Surrender In Young Thug RICO Case

Fulton County, GA – Gunna and Young Thug have been heavy topics of discussion since they were both arrested as part of a sweeping RICO indictment earlier this week. But while Young Thug was taken into custody on Monday (May 9) — the day the Fulton County prosecutors announced the indictment — Gunna didn’t surrender to authorities until Wednesday (May 11).

According to TMZ, there’s a perfectly good explanation for the delay. Gunna had several business affairs to get in order and family members to see before he could turn himself in. Seeing his mother was especially important considering how close they are.

Gunna also need to make sure his next video, “Banking On Me,” was ready and the release dates for new music were ironed out. Additionally, he needed time to confer with his legal team to figure out how they are going to fight the case.

Gunna is currently facing one count of conspiracy to violate the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act. He, along with Young Thug and 26 others, was formally indicted following a roughly one-year investigation into the Young Slime Life (YSL) crew, which prosecutors believe is a “criminal street gang.”

Both Young Thug and Gunna are being held at the Fulton County Jail without bond. Gunna’s attorneys— Donald F. Samuel, John A. Garland and Kristen W. Novay — are adamant their client is innocent, telling TMZ, “Mr. Sergio Kitchens, known as Gunna, is innocent. The indictment falsely portrays his music as part of a criminal conspiracy. Mr. Kitchens has been an advocate for his community, and it is our privilege to advocate for him.”
