Ice Spice is featured on Paper magazine’s latest cover. During the interview, which was published Wednesday (April 12), the New York rapper said that she’s started “a new lane” when asked about her position within drill music.

“I don’t know if I fit in. I think that’s what makes me so different,” Ice Spice told the publication. “I feel like it’s a new lane that I’ve started, and I’m starting to hear a lot of other artists sound like they belong in my lane now.”

Ice Spice has been one of the biggest voices in hip hop since the release of her breakout single, “Munch (Feelin’ U),” which went viral on social media and peaked at No. 34 Billboard’s US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. “So real shortly after that, that’s when I started to realize my fame was picking up and people was constantly coming up to me. I started to know gradually,” she told Paper, speaking on the success of the record. “It’s not like one day, you’re like, ‘Oh yeah, I’m famous.’ At some point, any time you step out the car, instantly people know you, instantly screaming your name.”

In January of this year, the 23-year-old released her debut EP Like..? and scored her first entry on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart with “Gangsta Boo” featuring Lil Tjay. The track, which was released on the EP, debuted at No. 82. Like..? itself debuted at No. 13 on the publication’s Top Rap Albums chart, No. 19 on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts and No. 37 on the all-genre Billboard 200 chart.
