Kai Cenat Arrested After NYC Event Turned Into A Riot, Mayhem In Union Square
Police are urging people to avoid traveling to Manhattan’s Union Square.
As reported on NBC, popular Twitch stream and YouTube creator Kai Cenat, held an event called the “huge giveaway.” He promised free PlayStation consoles at 4 p.m., but hundreds filled the square an hour before. Lisa Evers reports 3,000-5,000 people showed up.
It’s not clear what caused the crowd to become unruly and riot. People were reportedly throwing garbage at the police and knocking down barriers around the perimeter. Thousands of police officers were called to the escalating scene.
Kai along with “numerous” others were arrested, the exact number isn’t clear, nor or the charges.
The publication also reports, “The chaos was far from contained to just the plaza. The size of the crowd extended into multiple streets, blocking E 14th Street and Broadway directly south of Union Square.”
