Nick Cannon Issues An Apology To The 'Mothers Of All [His] Children' In Wake Of Son's Death
Nick Cannon gets refreshingly vulnerable about his personal life in every episode of The Nick Cannon Show. But on Thursday’s (February 3) show, the multi-hyphenate found it necessary to apologize to the mothers of his children for some comments he made earlier this week.
During Monday’s (January 31) episode, Cannon confirmed he’s expecting another child, this time with the ex-wife of former NFL star Johnny Manziel, Bre Tiesi. At the same time, he addressed online criticisms that he’s “careless, irresponsible and selfish” for having so many children. He also revealed he knew about Tiesi’s pregnancy before his infant son Zen Cannon died in December 2021 and struggled with knowing how to disclose it to the public.
“We didn’t expect Zen to pass away,” he said. “All of the news was so unexpected, so to kind of figure out a chronological order or hierarchy, it kept me up at night. I always talk about the guilt that I feel in losing in Zen and even how to deal with this for my other children. And that was a lot of the guilt, the guilt for everyone involved.
“And I just really want to say thank you to every one of my family members who’ve just been so understanding in helping me through this process. I wanted to definitely respect the grieving process with Alyssa and Bre was respectful enough. She held off on making her announcements and speaking on social media.”
But apparently, even Nick Cannon thinks he went too far. On Thursday (February 3), The Masked Singer host shared an Instagram post and expressed regret for some of the things he said.
“I wish to always protect and respect the privacy of the mothers of all of my children,” he says in the clip. “I know I can do better when dealing with delicate and sensitive discussions. I promise you, I promise the mothers of my children, I promise my family that I will do better and continue to be more understanding, caring, compassionate, like they often show me each and every day.”
He also noted he was still grieving each and every day over Zen’s death, adding, “We lost a child and it was and still is a sincere and real situation.”

As Nick Cannon prepares for his next child, he’s also working on resuscitating his music career. On Friday (February 4), Cannon will drop two new singles from his forthcoming R&B album Raw N B: The Explicit Tape:“Weekend Girl” and “I Do” featuring Chris Brown. Ahead of their arrival, Cannon spoke to HipHopDX about his decision to deviate from rap.
“Music has always been an outlet for me,” he said. “And that’s something I’ve always really, honestly, kept private. Because my public persona was always the nice, happy-go-lucky, always positive guy. So music has always been a place of therapy for me. And people don’t even know I was a trained musician and been playing instruments since I was kid. And really, I come from the church. So that’s where music began for me and where music is always laid.
“So even my rap career was … I was young and a little bubblegum-y and all of that. But the true musician in me was always somebody I’d be singing gospel music and singing my pain and singing. For now, just to be able to have the ability to display that and open that up, has really been a vision.”
Raw N B: The Explicit Tape is expected to arrive on February 18 with additional contributions from Brandy, Jacquees, Hitman Holla, K. Michelle and TraeTwoThree.
