Nicki Minaj Says There's No 2021 Hip Hop Without Her 'Seeing Green' Song

BET unveiled the nominees for their 2021 Hip Hop Awards show on Thursday (September 9), and while artists such as Megan Thee Stallion, Drake and Lil Baby are ecstatic about their inclusion, others aren’t so much.

On Thursday, Nicki Minaj jumped on Twitter to seemingly throw shots at BET for excluding her collaborative single with Drake and Lil Wayne, “Seeing Green,” from their nominations. According to Nicki, how can you speak about Hip Hop in 2021 if you’re not talking about that song?

“If you mention ‘HipHop’ in 2021 & don’t mention #SeeingGreen that tells me everything I need to know,” she tweeted.

Although Nicki didn’t direct the tweet at anyone in particular, fans were quick to point fingers at BET for not adding “Seeing Green” in their categories. Fans believe Nicki has a point given how her collaborative track with her Young Money brethren was widely praised after it was released.

“Seeing Green” was included in the May 2021 re-release of Nicki Minaj’s 2009 breakout mixtape Beam Me Up Scotty. The song became an early favorite on the reissue and fans couldn’t stop talking about the lyrical boxing match between the Young Money heavyweights.

But even though she received zero nominations for “Seeing Green,” Nicki did manage to find her way in through her collaboration with BIA.

BIA’s “Whole Lotta Money (Remix)” featuring Nicki Minaj is nominated for Best Collaboration and Song of the Year at the 2021 BET Hip Hop Awards. The song recently gave the formidable pair a platinum plaque, which BIA announced on Instagram by gifting Nicki a custom iced-out “BARBIA” chain.

“PLATINUM PU$$Y,” BIA wrote in the caption. “@nickiminaj THANK YOUUUU!!! I’ll forever appreciate this moment with you and all we managed to accomplish! #BarBIA WE in ! Love youuuu so much & BIG Thank you to the BARBs!!!”
