Nipsey Hussle & Mac Miller Getting Tribute At Iconic Death Row Studio By TDE's MixedByAli
Los Angeles, CA – TDE’s in-house engineer MixedByAli purchased a famous Death Row Records studio in December where Hip Hop greats such as Dr. Dre, 2Pac and Snoop Dogg created some of their classic albums. Since then, Ali has completed renovated the place and gave Complex an exclusive tour of the modernized building.
During the tour, MixedByAli revealed he’s turning one of the hallways into a Nipsey Hussle and Mac Miller memorial to inspire artists coming into the studio. Ali notably mixed Nipsey’s Grammy-winning Victory Lap album and considered Mac as the sixth member of Black Hippy alongside Kendrick Lamar, ScHoolboy Q, Jay Rock, Ab-Soul and himself.
“I wanna really give back to the people that inspired me the most,” he explained. “So I want this to be a memorial hallway for Nipsey Hussle and Mac Miller, so I’m gonna do all my Nipsey Hussle plaques down the wall on this left side and all my Mac Miller plaques and pictures of me and him on this right side. And really just have that memorial for the homies, rest in peace.”
Speaking on Nipsey’s legacy, he said, “His work definitely prevailed, his work definitely left an impact on this culture, on this world. [The Grammy win] meant it was finally recognized, that’s what it really meant. So now that the world really recognizes what he’s done and the impact that he’s left on culture when it comes to kids starting their own businesses, when it comes to people really taking ownership of what they own, this means a lot.”
He added, “The reason for having that memorial is to show ownership to the people coming into the building and inspire them.”
In late 2020, MixedByAli revealed his delight about acquiring such a legendary recording studio and paid homage to the iconic artists that recorded there.
“This is the most exciting news I’ve announced since the birth of my daughter,” he said in December. “This is Death Row Records former studio, where they recorded and mixed @drdre ‘The Chronic 2001’, @snoopdogg ‘The Dog Pound’, Tupac’s ‘All Eyes On Me’ and countless other records that shaped my childhood and inspired me to create the music I make today, being from the west coast. I’m proud to announce, this is now my facility.
“Starting renovations next week and In the coming months I will be transforming this iconic Hip Hop monument into Two of the BEST sounding @solidstatelogic / @augspurgermonitors mixing rooms in Los Angeles. We’re looking forward to harnessing the energy & history from this studio and continue pumping out nothing but timeless hit records just as they did in the ’90s.”
