August Alsina Says ‘Choose Peace’ Amid Will Smith Oscars Controversy
August Alsina is getting entangled in the Oscars controversy.
The R&B singer, who was involved in a relationship with Jada Pinkett Smith, is speaking out after Will Smith slapped Chris Rock on stage at Sunday’s Academy Awards for making a joke about his wife.
“choose peace,” Alsina wrote in his lengthy Instagram caption before sharing more positive affirmations.

Back in July 2020, the “Entanglements” singer claimed he had an affair with the Set It Off actress.
“I totally gave myself to that relationship for years of my life, and I truly and really, really deeply love and have a ton of love for her,” he told Angela Yee. “I devoted myself to it, I gave my full self to it–so much so to the point that I can die right now and be OK with knowing that I truly gave myself to somebody.”
August even suggested that Will approved of their relationship. “I actually sat down with Will and had a conversation due to the transformation from their marriage to life partnership … he gave me his blessing,” he said at the time.
During her “Red Table Talk,” Jada confirmed that she had an “entanglement” with Alsina while she and her husband were temporarily separated. “I was in a lot of pain and I was very broken,” she said. “I just wanted to feel good. It had been so long since I felt good.”
In the wake of the Oscars, Willow Smith called for compassion by reposting a quote from Jay Shetty.
“You know who’s going through a lot right now? Literally everyone. Just be kind,” said Will and Jada’s 21-year-old daughter.
It echoed a message posted by her mother earlier in the week. “This is a season for healing and I’m here for it,” wrote Pinkett.
Jaden showed his support for his father, tweeting “And That’s How We Do It” in the hours after the Oscars telecast.
