Brent Faiyaz Releases New Album ‘Icon’: Listen

Brent Faiyaz is finally back with his most awaited musical offering in a bit. Yes, the artist has finally released the Icon album on all streaming platforms.

The 10-track project is just the right length for what may be defined as the slowing down of life in the fast lane, facilitated by Brent’s proclivity for relaxing, sensual flows over laidback beats. The album opens with ‘white noise.,’ a track that effectively avoids any vocal performance. In a bold opener, the artist literally let the music speak for itself, before ever attempting to put a word together.

The song titles are interesting too, and do not begin with capitalised first letters as one would otherwise expect them to. Instead, they stand out like parts of broken sentences, each ending with a ‘period.’ Perhaps there is something to be said about being thrust in the middle of an idea, with the end intact, denoted deliberately with a ‘.’

Thematically, the artist explores intimacy, meditates on the sensory, reflects on his time with partners & often captures the complexity of romantic relationships. Of course, this is just scratching the surface of the experience. Check it out for yourself!
