Dr. Dre Opens Up About Health Scare
Dr. Dre is opening up about his health scare that landed him in the ICU.
In January, the legendary producer suffered a brian aneurysm and was rushed to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in L.A. He remained there for over a week before being sent home where he was monitored by medical professionals 24/7.
Now he’s opening up about his sudden hospitalization, revealing that he was taken aback.
“It’s a really weird thing,” the 56-year-old mogul told the Los Angeles Times. “I’ve never had high blood pressure. And I’ve always been a person that has always taken care of my health. But there’s something that happens for some reason with Black men and high blood pressure, and I never saw that coming.”
He remains focused on his health and is feeling better than ever. “But I’m taking care of myself. And I think every Black man should just check that out and make sure things are OK with the blood pressure,” added Dre. “And I’m going to move on and, hopefully, live a long and healthy life. I’m feeling fantastic.”
Dre is already back to work. He and Jimmy Iovine are teaming up to open a new public high school in Leimert Park in fall 2022. “We’re here strictly for the kids and trying to give them a future and something promising that maybe wasn’t available before,” said Dre, who said he wants to reach “the inner-city kid, the younger me.”
“This is for kids who want to go out and start their own company or go work at a place… like Marvel, or Apple or companies like that,” he added.
Dre’s personal life has also been in the headlines. He is now officially single after a judge signed off on his highly-publicized divorce from estranged wife Nicole Young. However, the former couple continues to battle it out over the validity of the prenup.
