Kehlani Reveals How Father of Her Child Reacted to Her Coming Out

Earlier this year, Kehlani responded to rumors about her sexuality by officially coming out as a lesbian.

As part of Facebook Watch’s “Pride On! Kehlani & Larray’s Excellent Pride Ride” special, the “Back Together” singer revealed how Javaughn Young-White, the father of her 2-year-old daughter, reacted when he learned about her sexual orientation. In March 2019, the two welcomed a baby girl named Adeya Nomi.

“I have a 2-year-old daughter…She’s the best,” said Kehlani, according to Complex. “Me and her dad are like really, really close friends, and the decision to start a family was really easy for us because we both believed in each other’s ability to be good parents.”

She said that Young-White has remained a supportive friend and father. “We just focus on being a team, honestly, and when I was able to tell him, like, I’ve come to newer terms with my sexuality and he’s super, super, super supportive,” she added.

Kehlani also revealed that she and Young-White have tried to normalize parental relationships around their daughter. “Like usually where people would bring up ‘mom and dad,’ we also say ‘mom and mom’ and ‘dad and dad,’” she said.

While on Instagram Live with her friend on Easter Sunday, Kehlani announced that she was gay. “You wanna know what’s new about me? I finally know I’m a lesbian!” she said. In a later TikTok video, she confirmed her sexuality. “Well, it’s fu**ing true. I am gay, g-gay, gay, gay.”
