Lil Nas X Responds to Joyner Lucas Over ‘MONTERO’ Criticism

Lil Nas X continues to stir controversy with his new video.

Joyner Lucas is among those condemning the visual for “MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name),” which depicts the 21-year-old rapper descending into hell on a stripper pole and giving Satan a lap dance.

He began by applauding Nas for his artistic expression. “That @LilNasX video is wild but as a artist he doing everything he supposed to do,” he tweeted. “Creating viral moments, making people talk, & creating content he already knew you was going to react to. It’s a formula guaranteed to work. I doubt he actually worships the devil.”

However, he also shared his concerns as a father to a young son. “I think the biggest problem for me is the fact he dont understand ‘old town road’ is every kids anthem,” he continued. “Children love him for that record. They tuned in and subscribed to his channels. So with no disclaimer he just dropped some left field ish & all our kids seen it. Smh.”

Nas clapped back, noting that his hit “Old Town Road” features lyrics not suitable for children. “i literally sing about lean & adultery in old town road. u decided to let your child listen. blame yourself,” he wrote.

Joyner countered by arguing that the record-breaking song appeals to a younger audience. “Bruh you literally won and accepted Nickelodeon kids choice awards for this record. 😭 Wym? @LilNasX.”

Joyner is not the only one who took issue with the video. Nas also defended the demonic clip against attacks from conservatives including Candace Owens. “You know you did something right when she talks about it,” said Nas.

Meanwhile, he has collaborated with art collective MSCHF on a pair of custom Nikes dubbed “Satan Shoes” featuring a drop of human blood. Despite the controversy, all 666 pairs sold out in less than a minute.
