“Rex6: Empowering South Philadelphia Through Luxury Streetwear and Community Resilience”

Rex6: Luxury Streetwear with a Mission

In the heart of South Philadelphia, a clothing brand known as Rex6 is paving the way for a new kind of streetwear. Launched on May 29, 2021, by Rich, Rex6 stands as a beacon of hope and empowerment in a community that has faced adversity and challenges. With roots deeply planted in the neighborhood, Rex6 is not just a clothing line; it’s a movement that aims to inspire the youth and bring a sense of unity to a community that has weathered many storms. When visiting South Philly, it wouldn’t be uncommon to see Rex6 hoodies floating on backs amongst the people.

A Vision Born from Experience

Growing up in South Philadelphia, Rich witnessed firsthand the struggles his peers faced. Many did not have the opportunity to graduate high school or celebrate significant milestones like their 21st birthdays. The harsh realities of life, including access to guns and the threat of violence, loomed large over the community. Despite the challenges, Rich believed in a vision for a better future. Rex6 was conceived as a way to honor the neighborhood and the local recreation center that provided a sense of safety and belonging during tumultuous times.

“I wanted my neighborhood and the streets that shaped me to be known for more than taking young lives through incarceration or violence,” Rich explains. This mission is rooted in the brand’s foundation and resonates through its design and aesthetic.

Comfortable Luxury Athletic Streetwear

Rex6 is aptly described as “comfortable luxury athletic streetwear” or “all-purpose wear.” It captures the essence of contemporary street culture while providing quality attire that is practical for everyday life. With a focus on strong craftsmanship, the brand seeks to embody three key attributes: strength, family, and uniqueness. Each piece reflects Rich’s commitment to creating stylish yet comfortable clothing that uplifts the community.

A Mission to Inspire

The mission of Rex6 is clear: to motivate anyone who comes from backgrounds similar to Rich’s and to demonstrate that achieving one’s dreams is indeed possible. “It’s all about the youth for us, bringing back togetherness not just for our community but for everybody,” Rich states. The brand aims to deliver great quality clothing to individuals around the world, reinforcing the idea that everyone deserves access to fashion that makes them feel empowered and connected.

Signature Pieces and Community Connection

While the brand has just begun to carve its niche in the street fashion world throughout the last few years, it’s already seen traction with notable figures donning its pieces. Athletes like Dion Waiters, Will Barton, the Morris twins, Kevin Durant, along with artists like 2rare, Beanie Siegel, and a plethora of others, have been seen showcasing Rex6. The brand’s aesthetic not only represents fashion but also a strong connection to South Philadelphia’s culture.

As for signature pieces, each design released reflects a story and a message, instilling the brand’s values into the clothing itself. With pieces like the “Power6” sweatsuit, the “Narcissist” t-shirt and the “What the Rex” basketball shorts, Rex6 has been expanding their audience after each release.

Rich humorously advises, “Carry it with care,” encouraging wearers to cherish their clothing as reminders of their origin and aspirations. “You wear the clothes, don’t let the clothes wear you.” -Rich

Overcoming Hurdles and Looking Ahead To New Collaborations

Building Rex6 hasn’t come without its hurdles.  Rich explains, “As you begin to build your brand from the ground up you will endure a lot of trials and tribulations and moments of “imposter syndrome” such as, “Are my ideas good enough?” “Am I doing this right?”“How will people respond to this?”.  In efforts to get the brand flourishing, you have to get out your own way.”

His advice for upcoming designers is simple yet poignant: “Keep going, keep creating, and be different.”

Taking his own advice, most recently, Rex6 collaborated with NBA champion and former LA Laker Dion Waiters for their “Is You Over Me” t-shirt. Which makes it obvious that Rex6 has gotten itself to a total different level since 2021.
