Project Pat Promises 'Flatline' Treatment Messing With Drake's Dad In Any Memphis Hood After 'CLB' Look
Project Pat contributed to Drake’s sixth studio album, Certified Lover Boy, on a track called “Knife Talk” featuring 21 Savage. The song was sandwiched nicely in between the feature-less “No Friends In The Industry” and “7AM On Bridle Path,” allowing their contributions to really stand out.
During a recent interview with 360 Plug Hype, the Memphis rap legend spoke about how the song came to fruition and revealed it was an old track Metro Boomin had originally made for 21 Savage. But for one reason or another, the song didn’t make the cut.
Once Drake got his hands on it, Project Pat said he was graced with a “Drake blessing” and asked to be on it. Project Pat then pointed out Drake’s father, Dennis Graham, currently lives in Memphis and has all the protection he needs.
“I mess with Drake daddy,” he said. “Drake daddy mess with everybody down here. OG, he be downtown kickin’ it. Look — and the gangstas — ain’t nothing ‘gon happen to him. Nothin’. Ain’t nobody ‘gon mess with Drake daddy, bruh. Nobody, man. No, you ‘gon get flatlined. They don’t play that because, see, Drake show too much love down here.”
Project Pat also explained why Dennis Graham is treated so well in his neck of the woods, where he says genuine love is in short supply.
“A Memphis dude, If you show us some real love — ’cause it don’t be a lot down here like that — when you show us some real love, it’s over,” he said. “Like man, you show a Memphis dude some love and you never have to worry about nothing when you around him. If in the street or whatever, if he around, he ready to go to jail; about to do a 100 years. He don’t care ’cause Memphis dudes, we don’t get that, nah.”
“Knife Talk” peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and currently sits at No. 8, just one of the many chart successes Drake has experienced since dropping Certified Lover Boy. The album itself debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, earning over 613,000 total album-equivalent units in its opening week. It has remained in the top spot for the last three consecutive weeks.
Meanwhile, the single “Way 2 Sexy” featuring Young Thug and Future landed at No. 1 on the Hot 100, marking Drake’s ninth chart-topping single.
