Rae Sremmurd Would 'Own' TikTok If They Came Out 'In Today's World' Says 42 Dugg
42 Dugg is giving Rae Sremmurd their flowers for the ability to inspire viral trends before TikTok took off.
Just as TikTok was launching in 2016, Swae Lee and Slim Jxmmi were going viral across other platforms for the Mannequin Challenge that used their song “Black Beatles” — resulting in a No. 1 Hot 100 single and even The Beatles’ Paul McCartney hopping on the trend. Nowadays, it’s the norm for songs to blow up on TikTok and even be part of artists’ marketing strategies.
Taking to Twitter on Wednesday (February 2), 42 Dugg revealed he thinks Rae Sremmurd would be dominating TikTok if the platform was around years ago.
“If Rae sremmurd came out in todays world they Ah own tik tok,” he wrote.
Swae Lee then responded to the tweet on Thursday (February 3), claiming Rae Sremmurd started viral challenges while requesting a 42 Dugg feature on their upcoming SremmLife 4 album.
“Need you on that Sremm 4,” he said. “We started viral challenges to be honest it’s crazy how people react to the music …New albums on the horizon. Take 1 step back to take 10 steps forward.”

SremmLife 4 has been years in the works following the release of SR3MM in 2018. Swae Lee previously said the album would be arriving in early 2019.
“SremmLife 4, we’re sticking to the script of what we do on the SremmLife; making club bangers, making timeless classics and just bringing the vibe,” he explained in October 2018. “Me and Slim Jxmmi are coming together for another classic album, our fourth album. SremmLife 4 will come early next year.”
Slim Jxmmi was reportedly arrested in Miami on January 25 for allegedly attacking the mother of his child, Kiara. Earlier in the month, he also made headlines after tweets were sent from his Twitter account about sleeping with a pornstar.
“Just got done smashing this pornstar on her OnlyFans,” a since-deleted tweets read. “Vegasssss on demon time. Who’s next. Who wants to see some hot shit on only fans? Last night was a movvieee.”
He later claimed he was hacked in a video posted to Kiara’s Twitter account.
As for 42 Dugg, the Detroit rapper had a breakthrough 2021 as one of HipHopDX’s Rising Stars, releasing his Free Dem Boyz mixtape on Lil Baby’s 4PF and Yo Gotti’s CMG labels and peaking at No. 8 on the Billboard 200.
