Prosecutors Push For Tory Lanez To Receive A Harsher Sentence After Megan Thee Stallion Shooting Conviction

Prosecutors want Tory Lanez to serve the most time possible after he was convicted of shooting Megan Thee Stallion.

The 2020 incident resulted in Tory being found guilty last year on three counts. His legal team fought hard for an appeal, claiming the judge “erroneously allowed” for jurors to view an Instagram comment from the “Say It” singer’s personal account. In the post, it refuted claims that Megan’s ex-best friend, Kelsey Harris was the shooter.

After weeks of court delays, a judge denied the motion for a new trial. Rolling Stone reports sentencing will take place on June 13. Tory is facing a maximum of 22 years and eight months. Due to a new California law, “the rapper’s sentence would, by default, come in ‘the middle term’ unless proven there were ‘circumstances in aggravation’ in regards to the shooting,” the article reports.

In new a new court filing today (May 24), prosecutors “laid down” three aggravating factors for the judge to possibly give Tory a harsher sentence. In their opinion, Tory illustrated a “high level” of callousness, his use of a semi-automatic handgun, and Megan’s vulnerability the night of the shooting. In the filing, prosecutors wrote,

“As [the] victim began to walk away from Defendant wearing only a bikini and no shoes, Defendant mocked Victim with ‘Dance Bitch’ as [he] opened fire in her direction. With no justifiable reason, Defendant fired not just one but up to five rounds in the direction of Victim in the middle of a residential neighborhood.” It continues,

“The brazenness of Defendant’s conduct is alarming but the conscious disregard for the well-being and safety of all those around him signifies a high degree of indifference for human life.”

It’s not clear how many years prosecutors are pushing for. It’ll come in a week before sentencing. Tory was immediately taken to jail after the ruling last December and remains behind bars.
