Snoop Dogg Rejects Blame in Drakeo The Ruler Festival Death
Attorneys for Snoop Dogg’s company have filed a motion for summary judgment, arguing they bear no legal responsibility for the 2021 festival death of Drakeo the Ruler.
The company associated with Snoop Dogg has formally requested that a Los Angeles court dismiss a wrongful death lawsuit linked to the tragic killing of rapper Drakeo the Ruler. The motion for summary judgment argues that the entity holds no legal liability for the events that transpired during the 2021 “Once Upon a Time in L.A.” festival, where the artist was fatally stabbed.
In the court filings, attorneys representing the limited liability company contend that the entity exercised no operational control over the festival. They emphasize that the company did not sign any leasing or licensing agreements for Exposition Park, the venue where the incident occurred. Furthermore, the defense maintains that Snoop Dogg’s involvement was strictly limited to his performance on stage, rather than any oversight regarding production, logistics, or security protocols.
The declaration further asserts that representatives for the company were neither aware of nor present for the specific chain of events that led to the fatal attack. The filing highlights a lack of involvement in hiring security personnel or coordinating the event’s security strategy, noting that the company had no prior contact with the individuals involved in the altercation.
Legal Developments in the Festival Lawsuit
The underlying litigation was initiated in 2022 by the brother of Drakeo the Ruler, who alleged that the festival organizers failed to implement adequate security measures, thereby creating an environment that allowed the violence to occur. The lawsuit named several high-profile entities, including Live Nation and the Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC), which operates the stadium where parts of the event were hosted.
Recent developments in the case have seen the court begin to narrow the scope of liability. Earlier this month, a judge granted a motion for summary judgment in favor of LAFC, effectively dismissing them from the suit. As the legal proceedings continue, the court remains tasked with determining the extent of responsibility among the various organizers and stakeholders involved in the festival’s production and security arrangements.
