Beyoncé Officially Joins TikTok – But Will She Pull A JAY-Z?
TikTok has grown into one of the biggest social media platforms of the current generation. Countless artists have made the jump since it was launched in 2016 and it continues to grow by the day. But there’s one name in particular that has started to make waves on the platform.
On Thursday (December 16), TIDAL announced via Twitter that Beyoncé has officially joined TikTok. Queen B amassed almost 50,000 followers in just over an hour and that number has jumped to over 200,000 as of press time.

Beyoncé has yet to upload any content to her TikTok account, but given her semi-regular updates on Instagram, fans will be hoping for a steady stream of videos from Mrs. Carter — especially with a new album on the way.
Fans will also be praying Beyoncé doesn’t pull a fast one like her husband JAY-Z, who rejoined Instagram in early November and deactivated his profile just two days later.
Hov posted a single photo promoting his Netlix movie The Harder They Fall while following just one person (Beyoncé, of course). He accumulated over two million Instagram followers before his sudden exit.
While Beyoncé continues to expand her online presence, JAY-Z is a little more reserved when it comes to social media. During an interview with The New York Times in April, he opened up about his issues with social media and “cancel culture.”
“You can’t give someone a microphone for 24 hours a day and [have them] not think they have to use it!” he said. “Imagine having a microphone and you’re asked about social justice questions at 18 years old? It’s like, ‘What? I’m meant to know the answer, and if I don’t answer the correct way, if I don’t say everything right, even if my intentions are right, and I don’t say the same right thing, it’s going to be everywhere.’”
According to Funkmaster Flex, there’s a deeper reason why JAY-Z stays away from social media — at least publicly.
“You know why he can’t be on social media?” Flex said during an appearance on Million Dollaz Worth of Game earlier this year. “Because he’s the most sensitive muthafucka on the planet and he can’t take n-ggas in his comments telling him the truth. He can’t take it. He can’t open up social media. You know what Jay does? He watches social media from a fake page. I’m giving you the truth.”
