FreakNik Documentary Set To Come To Hulu, Executive Produced By Jermaine Dupri

Hulu announced the release of Freaknik: The Wildest Party Never documentary, executive produced by Jermaine Dupri.
The documentary “recounts the rise and fall of a small Atlanta HBCU picnic that exploded into an influential street party and spotlighted ATL as a major cultural stage,” per Hulu’s description. The question, “can the magic of Freaknik be brought back 40 years later?” is proposed.
Freaknik is widely remembered as a picnic in Atlanta in the mid ’80s. The picnic took place during Spring break for HBCU students. It came to an end in 1988 after the Atlanta Committee suggested the Black College Spring Break should cease hosting Freaknik due to reasons such as “sexual assaults [and] violence against women.”
Th committee chairman George Hawthorne previously said, “we cannot support events that bring lewd activities, sexual assaults, violence against women and public safety concerns – firetrucks not being able to reach victims, and ambulances not being able to reach hospitals in a timely manner.”
Jermaine Dupri says about the doc, “for anyone who missed Freaknik- we gon’ show y’all what y’all missed.”
