Joyner Lucas Thanks Bobby Shmurda For Putting ‘Respek’ On His Name

Joyner Lucas has responded to Bobby Shmurda‘s recent praise, where he compared the Massachuttes rapper’s success to that of No Limit’s Master P.

In an Instagram post on Friday (July 29), Lucas reposted a video clip in which the Shmurda praised his lucrative blueprint as an independent artist and hailed him the Percy Miller of his generation.

“I been telling Google to put some respek on my net worth for years,” the “ISIS” rapper wrote in the post’s caption. “Lol they still got me at 3 million. [loud crying emoji] [Bobby Shmurda] thank u for this [praying hands emoji].”

The clip above helps to somewhat provide context to the moves Joyner Lucas made in 2020 when he and his manager Dhruv Joshi’s artist collaboration platform Tully app received a strategic investment from Sony Music Entertainment.

During an interview with HipHopDX last year, following the release of his Billboard Top 10 album ADHD, Joyner Lucas explained that the app was created in order to empower artists to take back control over their music.

“Artists need to have control over their work,” Lucas told DX. “We sweat and bleed for this stuff, and it means everything to us. I built Tully to make it possible for me to have that control, know where all my stuff is and never have to rely on anyone to tell what’s mine and who owns what or how.”

Originally founded in 2015, Tully serves as a bank of digital tools that are meant to help streamline the creative process in music for artists and songwriters, who can record ideas, save beats, store masters and more on the secure cloud-based application.

While it’s unclear whether or not Joyner Lucas is actually making $250,000 per month as an independent artist, it’s clear that the infrastructure he has created for himself as an independent artist with the Tully app has afforded him an immense amount of freedom creatively.

A perfect example of the type of control he has over his music exists in the form of Joyner’s “Will” visual single — which he quickly re-released as a remix featuring Oscar Award-winning actor Will Smith following Smith’s excitement about the single. Check it out below.
