Lil Baby Honored With His Own Day In Atlanta

Atlanta, GA –

Lil Baby has been awarded with one of the highest honors in his hometown of Atlanta, Georgia.

The 4PF rapper was honored with his own day in the city on Sunday (November 13), with the date now being officially recognized as Dominique “Lil Baby” Jones Day going forward.

The 27-year-old hitmaker, who was born and raised in Atlanta’s Oakland City neighborhood, received a proclamation from the Atlanta City Council at a special ceremony on Sunday.

The proclamation cited Lil Baby’s successful Hip Hop career and impact as a “musical ambassador” for Atlanta, as well as his “generous” philanthropic efforts, including the launch of his Four the People Foundation.

The My Turn rapper has continually given back to his local community through his foundation, from starting a $100,000 scholarship fund at his alma mater, Booker T. Washington High School, to pledging $1.5 million of the proceeds from his 2020 hit “The Bigger Picture” to underserved neighborhoods.

“November 13th Is Officially Dominique ‘Lil Baby’ Jones Day In Atlanta !! Thank You,” Lil Baby wrote on Instagram while sharing several photos from the ceremony.

Fellow Atlanta rapper Ludacris and Atlanta Hawks star Trae Young were among those who congratulated Baby in the comments section.

The honor is just the latest feather in Lil Baby’s cap. Since his breakthrough in 2017, the Atlanta native has amassed an impressive trophy collection that includes three BET Hip Hop Awards, one MTV Video Music Award and a sole Grammy for his appearance on Kanye West’s “Hurricane.”

This past summer, Baby was crowned ASCAP’s Songwriter of the Year for a second year running while receiving the Quincy Jones Humanitarian Award at the 2022 Black Music Action Coalition Gala.

“I honestly didn’t know what a humanitarian was, but as I looked into it and started reading, I understand that I’m actually humanitarian,” he said while accepting the latter.

“I just want to say that I appreciate everybody in here because nothing that we doing or trying to do can be done by one person. It’s gonna take all of us to stick together and stay together.”

Meanwhile, Lil Baby continues to add to his decorated catalog. In October, the rapper released his eagerly awaited sophomore album It’s Only Me, which boasted appearances from Future, Young Thug, Nardo Wick and others.

The 23-track project debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard after notching 216,000 album-equivalent units in its first week, marking Baby’s third time atop the chart.
