Lil Tjay Announces 'I'm Back' With NYC Billboard Following Near-Fatal Shooting

Bronx, NY – Lil Tjay has announced his imminent return with a new billboard prominently displayed in the Bronx borough of New York City. The billboard popped up on Tuesday (August 23) with a simple message that read: “I’M BACK.” – Lil Tjay.”

The message is promising considering the 21-year-old rapper almost didn’t live to see the day when he could have a billboard in NYC. The Bronx native was shot at a Chipotle Restaurant in Edgewater, New Jersey shortly after midnight on June 22 and rushed to Hackensack University Medical Center.

He remained unconscious following an emergency surgery, and doctors were concerned about his chances of survival.

The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office explained suspect Mohamed Konate attempted to commit an armed robbery against Lil Tjay and two of his friends that day. When they resisted, Konate allegedly shot Tjay multiple times, while one of Tjay’s friends was shot once.

Konate allegedly struck Tjay in the thoracic cavity, nearly killing him. The 27-year-old was arrested on July 22 and was held at Rikers Island as he awaited extradition to New Jersey. He’s been charged with three counts of first-degree attempted murder, while the other two suspects have been hit with second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon.

Lil Tjay was discharged from the hospital last month. On August 3, a photo of Tjay talking to his friends on FaceTime made the rounds, showing him in good spirits.
