Lloyd Banks Returns To Hot 97 With Vicious Funk Flex Freestyle
Lloyd Banks has made his long-awaited return to Hot 97, delivering another stellar Funk Flex freestyle — check it out below.
Flex dropped the video on YouTube on Thursday (August 11), which sees the Queens-bred rapper, kitted out in an Oakland Raiders fitted and a black Dolce & Gabbana sweatshirt, tear the mic up with a series of neck-snapping bars.
DJ Juanyto laced Banks with the instrumental to Dr. Dre’s “Bitches Ain’t Shit” featuring Snoop Dogg, Kurupt and Daz Dillinger, taken from the legendary producer’s 1992 album The Chronic, and it was business as usual for the PLK.
“For the haters for whatever it’s worth/ I wish ’em well, I was sick when Kobe died, laughed when Oprah fell,” Banks opens the freestyle, which instantly catches Flex’s attention. “My name been holding weight/ My mail done broke the scale/ Fake ballers suffer from L’s and choking spells/ Cooked a thousand and now they mediocre he smoked as well.”
Lloyd Banks is no stranger to dropping heaters when he’s up at Flex’s studio, and it appears he’s just getting started with regards to his comeback trail. The most recent freestyle comes weeks after he unleashed his fifth studio album, The Course of the Inevitable 2, which boasts appearances from Jadakiss, Benny The Butcher, Conway The Machine and more.
During a recent interview with HipHopDX, Banks — who was on a lengthy hiatus before releasing The Course of the Inevitable (COTI) last year — explained what it is that’s currently driving his career.
“I just feel like I’m chasing the ultimate album, you know what I mean?” he said. “So it’s like, I can’t possibly be finished. I also lost more than a few years from just taking hiatuses in the business. In a lot of spots, I’ve might have been expected to have momentum, but I wasn’t in a situation at the time to just drop album after album.”
Banks recently stopped by ESPN’s Jalen & Jacoby podcast, where he revealed his favorite punchline rappers of all time.
The New York rapper didn’t take long to pick Big L, Lord Finesse, Jadakiss and Fabolous in his Top Five, while also rounding off the list with himself.
