Nicki Minaj, Royce Da 5'9, DJ Quik + More React To Dave Chappelle Attacker Getting 'Charlie Murphy'ed'
Los Angeles, CA – The late comedic genius Charlie Murphy was a cast member on Chappelle’s Show from 2003 to 2006. In one of the show’s most infamous sketches, Murphy issues a beatdown to “Superfreak” Rick James (played by Chappelle) as part of “Charlie Murphy’s True Hollywood Stories.”
People can’t help but draw parallels to what happened to the man who attacked Chappelle onstage at the Hollywood Bowl on Tuesday night (May 3). In a clip of the aftermath, over a dozen people surrounded the attacker and started kicking him. He was ultimately loaded into an ambulance, bloodied and bruised, with his elbow bent backward and right eye swollen shut.
Naturally, the internet has blown up with reactions to the incident. Nicki Minaj responded to a tweet that read, “Someone tried to attack Dave Chappelle last night, and got turnt into a Nicki Minaj pose.” She replied, “Wait.” Meanwhile, DJ Quik offered a simple “wow” alongside video of the melee, while Royce Da 5’9 shared a meme that read, “This is why Dave Chappelle started working out. Did not know who he was fucking with.”
Compton’s Most Wanted rapper Tha Chill also said what everybody was thinking: “Ummm, wrong stage to run up on lol.” Gangsta Boo drove the point home by sharing a photo of the man on a stretcher with the caption, “This the clown that ran on stage to attack @davechappelle huh? How did that work out buddy?”
Police have identified the suspect as 23-year-old Isaiah Lee of Los Angeles who’s being held on $30,000 bail. According to the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department website, he’s been charged with a felony and remains in custody. Chappelle was not injured in the attack. Check out the reactions below.
