Pharrell Pays Off Student Debt For 5 NAACP College Leaders

Washington, D.C. – With Pharrell’s Something In the Water Festival set to take over Washington D.C. this weekend, Skateboard P decided to make the life of five NAACP student leaders that much easier.

Pharrell announced on Friday (June 17) that he’s clearing the college debt of five students during an NAACP panel at the St. Regis Hotel highlighting the student debt crisis for Black scholars. The students were in complete shock realizing they’d be debt-free for the future.

“I’m going to law school,” one student tearfully revealed after hearing about Pharrell’s generous offer.

Wisdom Cole, an organizer of the NAACP panel, added, “Pharrell forever changed their lives. This was a powerful moment. Now just imagine if President Biden made this a reality for all student debt holders in America.”

Pharrell decided to pull the festival from his hometown of Virginia Beach, Virginia last October over concerns about how the city handled the police killing of his cousin Donovon Lynch.

Something In The Water boasts a lineup that includes P’s “Cash In Cash Out” collaborators Tyler, The Creator and 21 Savage as well as Ashanti, Ja Rule, Lil Uzi Vert, Rae Sremmurd, 6LACK, Roddy Ricch, Snoh Aalegra and more.

Earlier this week, Pharrell also blessed all graduating seniors in the Washington D.C. public school system with a free admission pass to Something In The Water.
