Method Man To Host Podcast Celebrating 20th Anniversary Of HBO's 'The Wire'

Method Man is one of the greatest lyricists of all time and he’s an established actor, but he’s looking to expand his reach in the podcast market. Earlier this week, HBO and Campside Media announced Method Man will be hosting a new podcast for the 20th anniversary of The Wire.

According to reports, the podcast looks back at the early days of the series and how it became one of the best shows in television history. The show titled The Wire At 20 is a partnership between HBO and Campside Media that will feature interviews with the cast, creators and more from the iconic series.

The network dropped a 4-minute trailer for the podcast featuring Method Man speaking on how The Wire had a much deeper story than the obvious police and crime drama many consider it to be. The series ran from 2002 to 2008, with Dominic West, the late Michael K. Williams, Sonja Sohn, Clarke Peters, Lance Reddick, Idris Elba and more starring in the hour-long drama. Method Man played the character of Melvin Wagstaff from season two through five.

Meth isn’t the only person celebrating the 20th anniversary of The Wire. Tray Chaney, who starred as Poot Carr in the show, dropped a music video of himself rapping about the legendary show on YouTube. The visual finds Chaney rapping while various scenes from the show play behind him.

The Wu-Tang Clan member’s television résumé continues to grow with his starring role as lawyer Davis MacLean in Power Book II: Ghost. His addition on the show also reunited him with his “I’ll Be There for You” collaborator Mary J. Blige who plays drug cartel queenpin, Monet Stewart Tejada.

The Wire At 20 debuted on Thursday (June 2) on HBO Max and on various podcast platforms, with series co-creators David Simon and Ed Burns serving as the first guests. Check it out below.
