Sexxy Red Addresses Alleged Unpaid Royalties to Tay Keith in Legal Filing
Sexxy Red has formally written to a judge regarding a lawsuit involving unpaid royalties for producer Tay Keith, clarifying her role in the payment process.
In an ongoing legal dispute, Sexxy Red has been named as a defendant in a lawsuit concerning alleged unpaid royalties. The case centers on claims that producer Tay Keith did not receive proper compensation for 13 songs he produced for the artist throughout 2024. In a recent development, the rapper has submitted an emotional letter to the presiding judge to clarify her position on the matter.
In her correspondence, Sexxy Red emphasized that artists typically lack direct control over the financial disbursements made to producers, noting that such matters are primarily the responsibility of the record label. “Tay Keith and I are great working partners and even greater friends,” she stated in the letter. “If the label owes him money, I’m sure they have started the process to get him paid.”
The rapper further addressed the industry-standard practice of recoupment, explaining that she has also faced delays in receiving her own royalties. She noted that the label’s payment structure often dictates that artists and producers are only compensated after specific financial thresholds are met. “There are several songs that Tay Keith and I have worked on together that I haven’t received payment for yet. It’s just a process the label uses in making payments after all the monies are recouped,” she explained.
Concluding her appeal, Sexxy Red has requested to be dismissed from the lawsuit, arguing that the conflict is a contractual issue between the labels and the relevant stakeholders rather than a personal dispute between the artist and the producer.
